Like I said above I own 8.1 and after the switch from 7 and downloading Classic Shell and doing some tweaks of my own am a happy camper. Windows 8.1 for me is nice even with Metro because I sometimes play Asphalt 8. Do you think these 'Gamer Editions' Have any gained performance over normal versions of the same Operating System? If Microsoft knew how to make a modified better DX11 they would have done it already.

Without even bothering to look up supposed proof that Windows 7 Gaming Edition is better than Windows 7 for gaming, I doubt it actually improves anything, or anything noticeable. Personally I actually like the Start Menu. It fits SO many more programs than the Windows 7 Start Menu. Windows 8.1 has an all around better kernel. No matter what Windows 7 version you download (even hacked up ones) it will never be as fast as Windows 8.1. People like to strip operating systems of services and other processes that aren't essential to gaming.

Gaming editions of Windows usually tend to work best on old machines that can barely run Windows as is. You can make your own version just by looking up each process that Windows 8.1 has running that's not critical to networking or stability of the system and killing it. This is essentially how GameBooster also works (another gimmick). An OS is a critical software, without it, your system is as useful as a door stop.

I'm using Windows 8 for a while now and I'm still not sure what I think about it. On the one hand it clearly is faster than Windows 7, especially on slower hardware (-> mobile devices) and several things, like the Task manager and the Explorer, are much better than before.
But then there are so many things I can't imagine anyone to be happy about: • Why do I have crappy apps (that need space on my small enough ssd) for things I already have perfect programs for? And why can't I just simply uninstall them all? • Why does everything every time want me to create a Microsoft account? • Since there is Windows 8 a lot more laptops are limited to this specific OS • Compared to Android it really isn't a good tablet/mobile OS (for me, now). Since they made it possible to use 'small' tiles in the Modern UI and set the same Wallpaper as on the desktop I found me using it as a complete start menu replacement. Even though I found the old one better when it comes to workflow.
I think this comes because of the fullscreen switching and the disappearing of the startbar - I literally feel like loosing the connection to what I'm doing right now. This (sometimes) still makes me feel forlorn(?)/lost when using Windows 8. This is what I did for my setup, but you can't uninstall all apps this way.
